Gayo Arabica Coffee is a premium variety of Arabica coffee grown in the Gayo Highlands, located in Aceh, a province on the northern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia. This region, situated at elevations between 1,200 to 1,700 meters above sea level, offers ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality Arabica beans, including cool temperatures, rich volcanic soil, and consistent rainfall.
Gayo coffee is well-known for its smooth body, low acidity, and complex flavor profile. It often features notes of chocolate, herbal spices, and tropical fruits, making it a favorite among specialty coffee enthusiasts. The beans are typically processed using the wet-hulled (Giling Basah) method, a traditional Indonesian technique that gives the coffee a distinctive earthy and full-bodied character.
Gayo Arabica has received Geographical Indication (GI) status, which recognizes its unique origin and ensures authenticity. It is often produced by smallholder farmers, many of whom practice organic and sustainable farming methods.
Due to its rich taste and ethical production, Gayo coffee has gained international recognition and is exported worldwide
