Acetic acid, with the chemical formula CH COOH and also known as ethanoic acid, is the simplest organic monoprotic weak acid (pKa = 4.75 at room temperature) after formic acid. At room temperature and pressure, it is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor, often represented by the symbols HOAc or HAc. It is the main component of vinegar. Acetic acid is widely distributed in nature. For example, it exists in the form of ethyl acetate in fruits, vegetables, and vegetable oils; as a free acid in animal tissues, excreta, and blood; and can also be converted from other organic compounds through fermentation by microorganisms.
Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) Production Plants
Used for the reaction of acetic acid with ethylene to produce vinyl acetate monomer (VAM), which is further used to manufacture polyvinyl acetate (PVAc adhesives), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA fiber/film), coatings, emulsions, etc.
Acetate Ester Production Plants
Use: Esterification reaction of acetic acid with alcohols (ethanol, butanol, ethyl ester, etc.) to produce ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, methyl acetate, etc.
Terephthalic Acid (PTA) Production Plants
Use: Acetic acid is used as a solvent in the production of PTA (PTA is the main raw material for producing polyester fiber, PET bottles/sheets, and polyester film).
