Oriented strand board (OSB) is replacing plywood, especially for timber framed houses and in the packaging industry with efficiency and sustainability. OSB is used instead of cement-based building materials reducing carbon emission. To produce oriented strand board, logs are sliced into long chips called strands. These are laid in perpendicular layers and bonded using resin. The result is a strong board that resists moisture, giving it a high load capacity. Thus OSB is strong yet flexible.
OSB is produced in huge, continuous mats to form a solid panel product of consistent quality with no laps, gaps, or voids. Finished panels are available in large dimensions, minimizing the number of joints that can "leak" heat and admit airborne noise.

1. Apa itu kayu MDF?
MDF adalah kepanjangan dari Medium Density Fiberboard. Kayu MDF ini merupakan jenis kayu olahan yang dibuat dari serpihan kayu yang dipadatkan. Kayu MDF ini dijual dalam bentuk lembaran menyerupai triplek atau papan. Kemudian bisa diolah kembali menjadi sebuah furnitur yang fungsional.
2.Keunggulan kayu MDF
Kayu MDF memiliki sejumlah keunggulan. Di antaranya adalah tekstur permukaannya lebih halus dibandingkan dengan plywood atau kayu multipleks sehingga nyaman untuk disentuh dan tidak perlu diamplas kembali saat akan dibentuk. Proses pengecatan juga menjadi lebih mudah karena seluruh permukaannya bisa tertutup dengan sempurna. Satu hingga dua kali pengecatan saja sudah cukup.
Ikatan serat yang ada di dalam papan kayu MDF ini sangat kuat karena tidak hanya dilem, melainkan diberi tekanan juga. Meski dijual dalam ukuran besar, kayu MDF ini tidak akan mudah patah dan rusak seperti papan kayu olahan lainnya.
