Sodium Carbonate (CAS No. 497-19-8) is an inorganic compound with a chemical formula of Na2CO3 and a molecular weight of 105.99. It is also called soda ash, but it is classified as a salt rather than an alkali. Also known as soda or soda ash in international trade
Sodium carbonate is white odorless powder or granules at room temperature. It has water absorption, and gradually absorbs 1mol/L moisture (about = 15%) when exposed to the air.
Sodium carbonate is easily soluble in water and glycerol. The aqueous solution of sodium carbonate is alkaline and corrosive to a certain extent and can undergo a metathesis reaction with acid, as well as a metathesis reaction with some calcium salts and barium salts. The solution is alkaline, which can make phenolphthalein turn red.
Light Soda Ash is an important basic industrial alkali chemical used in soap and detergents, pulp and paper, iron and steel, aluminum cleaning compounds, water softening and dyeing, in fiber reactive dyes, effluent treatment and production of chemicals

5 Character: Anhydrous is a white crystalline powder, relative density 2.53, melting point 851 ºC, heated to 400 ºC decomposition. Insoluble in ethanol, soluble in water, dissolved when heat, solution is strongly alkaline. Easily deliquescence agglomeration in the air, absorb CO2 and produce sodium bicarbonate. Monohydrate as a fine white crystal or powder, the relative density of 1.55. Stable at room temperature and heated to lose crystal water becomes anhydrous at 100 ºC. Decahydrate colorless transparent crystallization temperature 34 ºC, relative density (20 ºC) 1.44, in the air easily weathered.
6 Usage: It is one of the important chemical raw materials used in making chemicals, cleaning agents, detergents, but also for photography and manufacturing pharmaceuticals products.
7 Packing: It is packed with polythene bag as the inner layer, and a compound plastic woven bag as the outer layer. The net weight of each bag is 25kg.
8 Storage and Transport: It should be stored in a dark, dry and ventilative warehouse, kept away from water and moisture; unloaded with care to avoid damage. Furthermore, it must be stored separately from poisonous substances.
Sodium carbonate, Na2CO3, is the water-soluble sodium salt of carbonic acid. It most commonly occurs as a crystalline heptahydrate, which readily effloresces to form a white powder, the monohydrate.
