How to Grow Bananas From Seeds
Encourage your banana seeds to grow by soaking them in water, sowing them in sandy and loamy soil, watering consistently, and maintaining proper temperatures. Here are six steps to follow when growing bananas at home from seed

Soak the Seed First
Give the seeds a headstart by softening and warming them up. Put the seeds in a bowl and cover them with warm water, changing the water when it cools down.

Leave the seeds to soak for 48 hours to help the embryo sprout.

Prepare You Seed-Starting Tray

Put seeds in a seed tray indoors.
Use potting soil with lots of organic compost and more than half sandy/airy loam. This will provide the seeds with the necessary nutrients.

Sow the Seeds
Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in the tray. Sowing seeds outdoors in a bed is not possible unless the soil temperature remains above 68 degrees.

Water Gently
Water the tray so that the soil becomes moist, but not soggy. Do not drown the seed. Only maintain conditions that are damp as the seed settles in and begins to germinate. Soil that is too wet can cause the seed to rot.

Pay Attention to Temperature
Use a heat mat on a timer to maintain an indoor soil temperature of at least 60 degrees.Depending on the variety of the banana, it may need as much as 19 hours of cool temperatures and only five hours of warm, but research your seed to maintain the correct ratio.

Give it Time
You can't rush banana seed germination. Depending on your variety, seeds could germinate in two to three weeks or it could happen in two or more months or longer.

Coco Peat also known as coir pith or coir dust, is a byproduct of extracting fibres from the husk of a coconut. Coco peat is the binding material that comes from the fibre portion of the coconut husk. The coir dust is washed, heat treated, screened and graded before being processed into various Cocopeat products for Horticultural and Agricultural Applications and Industrial Absorbent.

Our coco peat is usually shipped in the form of compressed bales, briquettes, slabs and discs. The compressed cocopeat is converted into fluffy cocopeat by the addition of water. A single kilogram of cocopeat will expand to 15 litres of moist cocopeat. Cocopeat may also be mixed with sand, compost and fertilizer to make good quality potting soil.
Advantages of our coir peat are it provides good water retention property to soil, increases soil aeration, enhances soil wetting and acts as a solid potting medium and substratum for plants. In horticulture, cocopeat is recommended as substitute for peat because it is free of bacteria and fungal spores, and is sustainably produced without the environmental damage caused by peat mining. Cocopeat has high lignin and cellulose content which makes it ideal for growing mushrooms which thrive on the cellulose. Being a good absorbent, dry cocopeat can be used as an oil absorbent on slippery floors. Cocopeat is also used as bedding in animal farms and pet houses to absorb animal waste so the farm is kept clean and dry.

Pepper is largely produces as black pepper which is the dried whole fruit. White pepper is produced by removing outer pericarp and pepper is also available in crushed and ground forms. Small amount of green and ripened pepper is pickled in brine and dehydrated green pepper and preserved red pepper also traded. Pepper oil and oleoresins are also extracted marketed as value added products.

Pepper is mainly used as a spice and flavoring agent in food industry. It also has industrial uses in perfumery and pharmaceutical industries.

Field planting

Spacing – for both mono crop and inter crop with coconut – 2.4mx2.4m spacing is recommended (1700 plants/ha).

After the land preparation planting pits of 45cmx45cmx45cm are made and filled with the mixture of top soil, cow dung or compost.

Pepper vines are trained on live or dead supports. In sri lanka live supports are used and commonly used support trees is glyricidia sepium. And some may use erythrina indica (dadap) or gravilia robusta. Glyricidia sticks of 3-5cm in diameter and 2.2m in length should be planted to a 20cm depth at the corner of the planting pit. Supports should be planted at least 06 months before the planting of pepper provide adequate shade.

Field planting of pepper is done with the on set of monsoon rains. About 4-6 months old potted healthy and vigorously growing plants with 5-8 leaves are planted in the pits at 15-20cm away from the support. Immediately after the planting, temporary shade should be provided to protect cuttings from the direct sun light and suitable mulch should be applied to the base to conserve soil moisture.
