Palm Kernel Nut :-
Palm Kernel Nut is by-product of palm nut. Two main products gotten from the Palm Kernel Nut. Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) and the Palm Kernel Cake (PKC) if the palm nut is grounded into powder known as PKC the same can be used as animal feed while the oil extracted from the Palm Kernel Oil known as PKO can be used to produce soap and other industrial products. Both the Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) and the Palm Kernel Cake (PKC) are very useful in both industries, farm and domestic.

Palm Kernel Cake
Palm Kernel Cake is the by product left after oil is rendered from the kernel, mostly produced from expeller extraction.
Applications
Palm Kernel Cake is high-fibre, medium grade protein feed best suited to ruminants. Composed of 16% fibre and high phosphorus to calcium ratio and contains such essential elements as magnesium, iron and zinc.
Palm Kernel Shells (OR PKS) are the shell fractions left after the nut has been removed after crushing in the Palm Oil Mill. PKS are a fibrous material and can be easily handled in bulk directly from the product line to the end use. Large and small shell fractions are mixed with dust-like fractions and small fibres.
Moisture content in kernel shells is low compared to other biomass residues, meeting the needs of the following countries.
a) Japan
b) Thailand
c) China
and other countries.
PKS contains residues of palm oil, which accounts for its slightly higher heating value than average lignocellulosic biomass. Compared to other residues from the industry , it is a good quality biomass fuel with uniform distribution, easy handling, easy crushing, and limited biological activity due to low moisture content.
Press fibre and shell generated by the palm oil mills are traditionally used as solid fuels for steam boilers. The steam generated is used to run turbines for electricity production. These two solid fuels alone are able to generate more than enough energy to meet the energy demands of a palm oil mill.
The demand for PKS has increased considerably in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand resulting in price close to that of coal. Cement industries are using PKS to replace coal maily because of CDM benefits

Palm Kernel Shell:-
Palm Kernel Shell can be considered like a natural pellet and an high grade solid renewable fuel for burning, as received both in co firing with steam coat or burned at biomass power plants, usually blended with other grades of biomass like wood chips.
Applications:-
Palm Kernel Shell can be processed into various dimensional grades to suit specific applications such as:- charcoal, activated carbon, light weight aggregate for concrete and fillings. An ideal green fuel which substitutes the conventional fossils fuels such as a coal. It can be used in industrial boilers, furnace & foundries, brick kilns, residential & commercial heating.
