Kenya is rich in avocadoes. The local varieties are great in taste but not suitable for export.
We plant Hass and Fuerte varieties with our smallholder farmers and on Elton farm which are suitable for export and oil processing. Propagation material is carefully selected on Elton farm.
Elton Farm
Lima exports Hass and Fuerte varieties. Fruits are carefully picked by a trained team and sorted to ensure best quality fruit. Fruits which are damaged or not fit for export, are processed into avocado oil.
Most of our avocadoes are sourced from smallholder farmers, a smaller amount originates from Elton farm. We use local sorting houses to provide employment and technical knowhow to people from the region. Our avocadoes are certified organic by Ecocert (NOP and EU) and Global Gap. The Pinkerton avocado is a highly recommended avocado due to their consistent production, flavor and manageable tree size. This variety is a heavy producers of green pebbly-skinned flesh fruit. Hass
The Hass avocado is a large-sized fruit weighing 200 to 300 grams. When ripe, the skin becomes a dark purplish-black and yields to gentle pressure. When ready to serve, it becomes white-green in the middle part of the inner fruit.Owing to its taste, size, shelf-life, high growing yield and in some areas, year-round harvesting, the Hass cultivar is the most commercially popular avocado worldwide.
Fuerte
The Fuerte avocado is often recognized as the archetypal avocado, green in color, pear-like in shape, and ranging from six to twelve ounces in size. It has smooth, medium-thin skin that peels easily, with dense, pale green flesh. It is marginally oily with a rich, creamy flavor and notes of hazelnut, and it is still considered by many to be the best tasting avocado.
