Coconut fiber or coir fiber is a natural fiber obtained from coconut husk. Coconut fiber has a lignin content and therefore low cellulose content, making it elastic, strong, and durable.
Coir is relatively waterproof and is one of the few natural fibers that can resist damage from salt water. Coir is used as floor mats, car dashboards, and erosion control on river banks and hillsides.
