The conductor of control cable uses high-purity oxygen-free copper, with single wire cross-sections typically ranging from 0.5mm² to 10mm�² and core counts from 2 to 61. Conductor structures are available as solid (Class 1) or stranded (Class 2 or 5). Stranded conductors are more flexible, suitable for frequent bending or tight space installation. The insulation is typically PVC or XLPE. PVC insulation is economical and chemically resistant; XLPE insulation has a higher temperature rating (90â??) and greater ampacity. Insulation colors follow standard practices: black cores with white numbers, or color-coded (brown, blue, grey, green/yellow, etc.) for easy identification during on-site wiring. Each insulated core has uniform thickness and passes online spark testing to ensure no pinhole defects.
Control cables can be equipped with shielding depending on the electromagnetic environment and mechanical protection requirements. Shielding types include copper wire braid, aluminum/PET tape wrap, or a combination of both. Copper wire braid with coverage of 80%â??90% effectively blocks external electromagnetic interference and prevents signal distortion. For high-interference environments (e.g., near variable-frequency drives), an overall shield or individual shield + overall shield structure can be added. The armor layer is typically steel tape armor (for mechanical pressure) or steel wire armor (for tensile strength), with a PVC or PE sheath over the armor. Armored cables are suitable for direct burial, conduit installation, or rodent-prone locations, effectively protecting cores from external damage. All metallic shielding and armor layers must be properly grounded to achieve optimal shielding performance.
Control cables can be classified into flame-retardant grades ZA, ZB, ZC, ZD to prevent flame propagation when installed in bundles. Fire-resistant cables (Type N) maintain circuit integrity for more than 90 minutes under flame exposure, suitable for critical control circuits such as fire alarm systems and emergency stop loops. Low-smoke halogen-free (LSZH) control cables produce very little smoke and no halogen gases when burning, avoiding secondary harm to personnel and electronic equipment â?? ideal for subways, hospitals, data centers, and other crowded or confined spaces. Oil-resistant control cables feature special PVC or thermoplastic elastomer sheaths to resist mineral oil, lubricating oil, and cutting fluids. All flame-retardant, fire-resistant, and environmentally friendly models pass national or international standard type tests, and third-party test reports are available upon request.
