Sulfur is insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, ether, easily soluble in carbon disulfide. As a flammable solid, sulfur is mainly used in the manufacture of dyes, pesticides, matches, gunpowder, rubber, rayon and so on.

Sulfur is an important variety of inorganic pesticides. The product is yellow solid or powder, with obvious odor and can be volatilized. Sulfur water suspension is slightly acidic, insoluble in water, and reacts with alkali to form polysulfide. Sulfur burns with a cyan flame and produces sulfur dioxide gas.
