Automotive Glow Plugs are heating elements of known resistance.
They are introduced in the pre-combustion chamber in such a way that when heated the glow plug comes into contact with the cold fuel-air mixture pumped by the fuel injection system, the temperature increases, enabling the cold engine to achieve compression ignition.
Depending on the alloying elements in the heating element, a glow plug attains the operating temperature of 850 degree C between 4 to 40 seconds.
