A very old bronze statue of goddess durga, the mother of the universe. This statue was purchased from an adivasi, who apparently found a couple of statues and other metals in his field in the outskirts of maharashtra.
Based on its make, art, the metal, the patina on its surface and the wear & tear indicates its existence since centuries. Though being so old it has not lost its beauty.
Goddess durga is the mother of the universe and believed to be the power behind the work of creation, preservation, and destruction of the world. The meaning of "durga" is "durgatinashini, " which literally translates into "the one who eliminates sufferings." thus, hindus believe that goddess durga protects her devotees from the evils of the world and at the same time removes their miseries.
