RBD Coconut Oil is produced by processing the Crude coconut oil by refining, bleaching, and then deodorizing (RBD) to make it suitable for food applications. The resulting RBD coconut oil is bland in taste, light in colour, lacks off-flavors and has good resistance to oxidation, imparting superior tasting and keeping qualities on finished products. RBD Coconut Oil is also used in the production of coconut based specialty fats such as margarine fats, shortening, creaming fats, ice cream fats, etc.
DME stand for – Direct, Micro, Expelling it is produced in small communities, not mass produced. With the DME process, the virgin coconut oil is extracted only from fresh coconut flesh. Besides, the oil that's produced is of excellent quality – handmade, natural, raw and unrefined, retaining all the original qualities of the oil. In this method, the oil is extracted from the coconut within one hour of splitting the seed. Small local teams grate the flesh, dry and load it into a press and hand-press it. The dry coconut residue is great for baking, so nothing gets lost.
Extra virgin coconut oil is being called ‘the healthiest dietary oil on earth'. Extra virgin coconut oil has no cholesterol and consists mainly of medium-chain fatty acids like lauric acid, found in mother’s milk. It is rapidly digested and quickly produces energy rather than being stored in the body like other saturated fats. Cold pressed coconut oil is made by first grating the fresh coconut meat and then drying. This dried coconut is then placed into a press and, is pressed at varying degrees of pressure and temperature. This pressing yields oil with proteins which are fine enough to leak out of the press cake while under pressure. These proteins are then either filtered out or allowed to "settle" in settling tanks so the oil can be decanted.
