Lemongrass oil is one of the well-known oil which is mainly used in the perfumery, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. It is also commonly used in aromatherapy and cooking due to its high medicinal content. The leaves of lemongrass are used for extraction of the oil.

The plantation of lemongrass oil has a life span of 6-8 years. Globally India is one of the major producers of this oil. There are around 52 species of this plant. The species Cymbopogon Citratus is most widely used due to the high content of Geranyl acetate. it takes 66 pounds of lemongrass to make one quart of essential oil. The most common method of extraction of this oil is by steam distillation.
