Silicon Dioxide is a compound of silicon and oxygen, much seen of the mineral Quartz. It is utilized in many forms. Because silicon is a semiconductor. It is used to make smaller circuits, used in electrical equipment, such as computer, radio, television, and making solar cells. The silica-based glass is a component of the quartz watch in silicon carbide (SiC), using cutters, grinders, milling machines in the form of silica gel, using a look-up, used as an adsorbent in separation by chromatography graphene as silicate, used to make pottery, glass fibers, optical fibers in the silicon, which is a polymer of silicon. Silicon is a substance that combines with water, non-conductive, heat-resistant, and swift reaction, the electrical insulation, and a coating material to prevent chemical reactions.
Benefit
Silicon and Alloy
Applying the purest silicon was mixed with aluminum casting parts for cars (55% of the world).
Applying pure silicon that is ranked second as a raw material to produce silicon (40% of the world).
Pure silicon is used to produce ultrapure silicon for electronic applications as well.
Semiconductor - Ultrapure silicon can be mixed (doping) with other elements to change in response to electricity by controlling the number and charge (positive or negative) of the conductor. This is necessary for transistors, solar cells, semiconductor detectors, and other semiconductor devices used in electronics.
Photonic devices - silicon can be also used as Raman laser to produce coherent light. (However, it is inefficient light sources).
LCDs and solar cells - the amorphous silicon-hydrogen compound are widely used in electronics manufacturing, low price and with large areas such as the LCD and may also be used in solar cells, thin-film, low-cost and large area.
Steel and cast iron - a compound of silicon steel types, is used to produce cast iron by putting an alloy of iron and silicon, or silicon and calcium.
Silicon Compounds
Construction: silicon dioxide or silica in the form of sand and clay is a key ingredient of concrete and brick, which is used in the production of cement.
Pottery / ceramics - silicon is chemically resistant to heat. Used to produce high-temperature and silicate compounds used in the manufacture of ceramics and pottery.
Glass - Silica sand is the main component of glass. It can be made into a great variety and with different physical properties. Silica is the main object of producing window glass, packaging, insulation, and other helpful things.
Abrasive - silicon carbide abrasive is one of the most important abrasive.
Medical Materials - Silicones are flexible compounds, bonding a silicon - oxygen, silicon - carbon. It is used extensively as a band made of silicone breast implants and a contact lens, as well as other applications.
