kaolin, also called china clay, soft white clay that is an essential ingredient in the manufacture of china and porcelain and is widely used in the making of paper, rubber, paint, and many other products. Kaolin is named after the hill in China (Kao-ling) from which it was mined for centuries. Samples of kaolin were first sent to Europe by a French Jesuit missionary around 1700 as examples of the materials used by the Chinese in the manufacture of porcelain.
In its natural state kaolin is a white, soft powder consisting principally of the mineral kaolinite, which, under the electron microscope, is seen to consist of roughly hexagonal, platy crystals ranging in size from about 0.1 micrometre to 10 micrometres or even larger. These crystals may take vermicular and booklike forms, and occasionally macroscopic forms approaching millimetre size are found. Kaolin as found in nature usually contains varying amounts of other minerals such as muscovite, quartz, feldspar, and anatase. In addition, crude kaolin is frequently stained yellow by iron hydroxide pigments. It is often necessary to bleach the clay chemically to remove the iron pigment and to wash it with water to remove the other minerals in order to prepare kaolin for commercial use.

Kaolin (kaolin) is a non-metallic minerals formed by weathering bedrock containing
agar. Kaolin is important minerals and is used in many different areas such as:
Manufacture of ceramics, refractory, aluminum production, paint fillers, rubber, paper,
white cement, ...
Kaolin is a naturally occurring mineral used in oral & topical pharmaceutical formulations and is generally regarded as an essentially non-toxic and non-irritant material. Due to its origins in Chinese clay mixtures, it is sometimes referred to as China clay.
It is used in various facial products and treatments. It has been specially designed for
formulations where bacteria control, purity and high whiteness are required.
I am Erin from Shanxi Hengyuan Kaolin Co., Ltd., professional in calcined kaolin around 19 years.
Calcined Kaolin used as an Extender & Filler for Water Based Paints, like building paints, electrophoretic coatings ect. Also highly used in coated paper, thermal paper, newspaper, ceramic, rubber ect.

"Kaolin" is a raw material characterized by the only mineral such as Ca and Na montmoryonite (bentonite) among the clay raw materials, in other words kaolinite mineral. In industrial use, it is included in the statistics under "kaolin" as "calcined". Raw materials in which kaolinite is enriched among kaolinitic clays are included as "kaolin" and others are included in clay raw materials, regardless of their origin. For example, although ball lock is a kaolinitic clay, enrichment as "kaolin" is both very difficult and industrially unnecessary. With its non-clay minerals, other clays (illite-smectite group) and organic matter content, ball clay is a very good kaolinitic clay raw material with high plasticity. Brightness, abrasiveness, viscosity and grain size distribution-max grain size-shape of the produced kaolins and their rheology (water + clay behavior) are very important. All these properties are determined by the formation conditions of kaolin and developed by post-production processes.
