Hass Avocado Over the years, the avocado has been called an alligator pear, custard apple, butter pear and vegetable pear. The name alligator pear originated from a the specimen that has a rough skin similar to the hide of our Everglades beast of the swamps.
The Hass avocado is a variety of avocados with dark green, bumpy skin. It was first grown and sold by Southern California mail carrier and amateur horticulturist Rudolph Hass, who also gave it his name.
Owing to its taste, size, shelf-life, high growing yield, and in some areas, year-round harvesting, the Hass cultivar is the most commercially popular avocado worldwide.

Wood apple (Diwul) is a fruit which you can find in Sri Lanka. Although it is available to purchase in any super market or even in weekly wet market (pola), this is a fruit grown well in the dry zone of the country. These days, I am in Sri Lanka enjoying a holiday and was able to visit the southern area of the country.

Cashew, (Anacardium occidentale), evergreen shrub or tree of the sumac family (Anacardiaceae), cultivated for its characteristically curved edible seeds, which are commonly called cashew nuts though they are not true nuts. It appears as though one of its ends has been forcibly sunk into a pear-shaped swollen stem (hypocarp), called the cashew apple. The cashew apple, which is an accessory fruit (not a true fruit), is about three times as large as the true fruit and is reddish or yellow.

Raw Cashew Nuts( Known as RCN, Cashew nut Shell-on, Cashew nut in a shell, or Cashew nuts) is the name of the cashew apple sub-nut. Although a cashew apple contains 90% of the fruit, only 10% is a Raw Cashew nut.
A single Raw Cashew Nut has 30% cashew kernels and 70% cashew shell. Normally 1 ton of raw cashew nut can process 250-300 kg of the cashew kernels and 700-750 kg of the cashew shells.
The RCN has to be processed to separate the shell from the cashew kernel, which are used in cooking and confectionary making.
