It is mainly used as a hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst. It can be made by the high-temperature calcination of copper(II) oxide and chromium(III) oxide or the thermal decomposition of copper chromate, which evolves oxygen at higher temperatures and decomposes to copper chromite. Copper chromite, one of the most efficient materials, has wide commercial applications as a catalyst used in the unit processes of organic synthesis such as hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, hydrogenolysis, oxidation, alkylation, cyclization, etc. It can be used in pollution abatement as the catalyst to remove aqueous organic wastes, volatile organic compounds, and vehicular primary emissions such as CO, unburned hydrocarbon, NOx, and soot.
Lumpy Chrome Ore
Large, hard pieces of chrome ore, generally sized between 10mm to 300mm.
Typical CrO Content: 38% 44% (sometimes higher for premium grades)
Use: Mostly for ferrochrome production (smelting) in furnaces.
Advantage: Higher metallurgical grade; preferred by many smelters.
The high specific gravity and high thermal conductivity of chromite provide a pronounced chilling effect. Chromite sand has a glossy black appearance. Chromite is generally used for steel casting to provide chilling. �°t is difficult to reclaim chromite sand since, if it becomes contaminated with silica, its refractoriness is seriously reduced.
Chromite is iron magnesium chromium oxide: (Fe, Mg)Cr2O4. It is an oxide mineral and majorly found in metamorphic rocks although its primary origin is ultra-mafic rocks. Ore deposits of chromite form as early magmatic differentiates. Chromite, as is indicated by its early crystallization is resistant to the altering affects of high temperatures and pressures.
