A beam of light entering the leg of a right angle prism will deviate by a nominal value of 90°, while precise rotation of the prism controls beam alignment. When light enters the hypotenuse of the prism, it is commonly called a porro prism. In this configuration, a light beam will undergo 180° deviation that is invariant in the azimuthal axis, while precise adjustment of the prism controls beam elevation.
