Production of Cold-Bonded Briquettes
Cold-bonded briquetting is an energy-efficient agglomeration process that forms fine metallurgical and mineral materials into dense briquettes at room temperature without high-temperature sintering. It starts with raw material preparation, including crushing, screening, and proportioning iron ore fines, dust, mill scale, or other recycled fines. Next, the prepared materials are thoroughly mixed with a specialized cold binder and water in a high-efficiency mixer to ensure uniform distribution.
The blended mixture is then fed into a roll briquetting press, where high pressure compacts it into shaped green briquettes. These green briquettes go through low-temperature drying or natural curing to enhance strength, drop resistance, and thermal stability. The final products feature uniform size, high mechanical strength, and good metallurgical performance, suitable for blast furnaces, converters, and smelting systems.
This technology cuts energy use and carbon emissions greatly, enables recycling of industrial dust and sludge, reduces waste and transport costs, and supports green and circular production in metallurgy and mining.
