Our Eucheuma cottonii seaweed is cultivated through sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices that not only protect the marine environment but also provide vital livelihood support for local coastal communities. Once the seaweed reaches full maturity after 8 - 10 weeks, it is carefully harvested to preserve its natural quality and nutritional value. The fresh harvest is then placed on 25-foot raised net-beds, allowing the seawater to drip off while being sun-dried naturally for 3 - 5 days. This traditional drying process enhances the product's purity, transforming it into a distinct white and salty form that meets international market standards. After drying, the seaweed is tightly packed into 50 kg storage bags, ensuring efficient handling and shipping. To guarantee reliability and consistency for our buyers, all bags are transported to Honiara, where they undergo strict quality assurance procedures, including rechecking for moisture, inspection for any packaging issues, repacking if necessary, and accurate reweighing to record final tonnages. This meticulous process ensures that our international buyers receive only the highest-quality, well-preserved seaweed that is ready for processing into a wide range of applications, from food and pharmaceuticals to cosmetics and industrial use. Product Origin: Produced by coastal communities on Wagina Island, Choiseul Province, Solomon Islands. This product is providing sustainable income for villagers in this community, including women and children.
Key Features : Farmed in shallow lagoon waters for up to 12 weeks on ropes before harvested, then sun-dried for 4 to 5 days, bagged in 50kg bags and transported to Honiara (the capital city) to buyers who then export. The community farmers are looking at exporting directly, and hence the reason I get involved, as I am a farmer myself from the area, as well as a buyer. On average, the farmers can collectively produce 200 tonnes a month. We can start the export with 20% of the market share first.
