5-2 AL Aluminum conductor - AAC For this conductor, the applicable paragraphs of article 4 are: 4.2 & 4.4 The sizes of conductor required are as follows: 95 mm2 19/2.5 mm & 2000 m + 2% per drum. 70 mm2 19/2.1 mm & 3000 m + 2% per drum. 50 mm2 19/1.8 mm & 3000 m + 2% per drum. 35 mm2 7/2.5 mm & 3000 m + 2% per drum.

Conductor is to be sized to carry maximum earth fault current of system at point of application with final conductor temperature not exceeding 160 deg. C (320 deg. F) for at least 5 seconds. Main earthing conductors are to be minimum 120 mm2 or as otherwise required by the particular Section of the Specification.

AAC Conductors are made out of Hard drawn EC Grade (min 61% IACS) Aluminium wires stranded in successive layers in opposite direction to form the Aluminium stranded AAC Conductor up to 61 wires. All Aluminium Conductors are manufactured from electrolytically refined aluminium. They have a high level of purity; the minimum accepted level of aluminium is 99.7%. This product is also known as aluminium stranded conductor, as it is constructed of one or more strands of aluminium wire depending on the intended usage. As a consequence of this high level of purity, AAC Conductors are mainly used in areas where spacing is short and supports are close.
