Standard Heavyweight Drill Pipe (HWDP), was developed to provide a gradual transition from heavy drill collars to relatively lightweight drill pipe. This intermediate weight pipe has a wall thickness of approximately one inch, and helps prevent stress concentration at the top of drill collars. HWDP also allows drilling at higher RPMs, reducing torque and differential pressure sticking.

HWDP is well-suited for directional drilling. Because it bends easily, it simplifies directional control and minimizes connection fatigue problems common to high-angle or horizontal drilling.

For extended reach and horizontal wells, especially in wells where the total vertical depth to total measured depth ratio is low, high strength heavyweight drill pipe is often used high in the hole toapply weight on the bit.

Various combinations of HWDP, drill collars and standard drill string components can be created to meet the challenges of severe drilling conditions.

Drill pipes are steel tubes with threaded ends that are used to connect a drill rig¡¯s surface equipment with its drilling equipment, or bottomhole assembly, at the bottom of a well. They are used to transport drilling fluid to drill bits, and to raise, lower and rotate the bottomhole assembly along with the drill bit. Drill pipes must be manufactured to withstand severe internal and external pressure, distortion, bending and vibration. They are reusable and are not considered consumables in the process of exploring for and extracting oil and gas.
Green pipes, raw steel tubes, are processed through a number of steps to make them into drill pipes. First, the walls of green pipes are thickened by a process called "upsetting" through which a pipe¡¯s exterior surface is pushed inward. Next, the pipes are threaded and receive a strength-enhancing copper plating. Nondestructive quality control inspection then takes place, after which the pipes are welded to tool joints. Pipes then undergo weld heat treatments and a weld finishing processes that removes welding stress. More tests, including hardness, pressure and non-destructive inspection are carried out on the finished drill pipes before final coating and packaging.
The length of drill pipe typically is around nine meters.

Tool joints of our company are made of modified alloy steel, then fully heat treated. So the mechanical properties in accordance with API specifications, such as strength, hardness and impact strength are gaged to standard. All connections are gaged to API Spec. and phosphatized or copper plated for anti-galling treatment & resistance to corrosion.
