Properties: A type of sodium metaphosphate polymer, appearing as transparent glass flakes or white powdery crystals. It is highly hygroscopic, becoming sticky after absorbing moisture, and easily deliquesces in air. It is readily soluble in water; its solubility in water is relatively high, but the dissolution rate is slow; its aqueous solution is acidic. It readily hydrolyzes to form phosphites. It has the ability to form soluble complexes with certain metal ions (calcium, magnesium), thus it can be used to soften water. It can also form complexes with lead, silver, barium salts, etc.

Applications: Used as a high-efficiency water softener for cooling water treatment in power plants, locomotives, rolling stock, boilers, and fertilizer plants; as an additive in detergents; as a corrosion control or prevention agent; as a cement hardening accelerator; as a streptomycin purification agent; and as a cleaning agent in the fiber and dyeing industries. Used as a flotation agent in the mineral processing industry. Used as a sedative in medicine. In the petroleum industry, it is used for rust prevention of drill control pipes and for adjusting the viscosity of drilling mud. It also has certain applications in textile printing and dyeing, leather, papermaking, color film, soil analysis, radiochemistry, and analytical chemistry.
Transportation and Storage: During transportation, prevent rain, keep away from moisture, and ensure the packaging is not damaged. Do not store or transport with harmful, toxic substances or other pollutants. Store in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse with a padding layer to prevent moisture absorption.
