Polymerized Rosin

Polymerized rosin is a pale - colored, acidic, thermoplastic resin featuring a high softening point. It is primarily composed of dimeric acids that are derived from rosin, along with relatively smaller quantities of monomeric resin acids and neutral substances of rosin origin. It exhibits a high degree of resistance to oxidation and does not crystallize either from solutions or from solid compositions. It demonstrates compatibility with a wide range of natural and synthetic film - forming substances and rubbers. As an acidic resin, it readily reacts with polyalcohols to produce high - melting derivatives.

Applications
It is suitable for use in inks, adhesives, paints, coatings, fluxes, synthetic resins, and other such applications.

Solubility:
It is soluble in aromatic, aliphatic, and chlorinated hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, and higher - molecular - weight alcohols. However, it is insoluble in methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, and water.

Compatibility:
It is compatible with ethylcellulose, natural rubber, SBR (styrene - butadiene), polychloroprene, drying oils, alkyd resins, shellac, low - molecular - weight polyethylene, paraffin, and microcrystalline waxes.
