Swabs & Viral Transport Medium
Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, DaklaPack have been receiving an increase in inquiries regarding which types of swabs, media, and kits should be used for COVID-19 sample collection prior to testing. We have made this product group to home all of our testing swabs and transport media. As outlined by PHE the collection and handling of clinical specimens suspected of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), health workers should only use synthetic fiber swabs with plastic shafts. Calcium alginate swabs or swabs with wooden shafts should not be used when testing for COVID-19 as these can contain substances that inactivate some viruses and can inhibit PCR testing. For initial diagnostic testing, PHE recommends collecting and testing of the nasal respiratory tract or a throat respiratory tract. All testing should be conducted in consultation with a healthcare provider. Once the swab has been used to take a sample, simply break off at the break line and enter into the tube with VTM. This can then be sent through the mail using our P650 set, or entered into the RigidSafetyBag and then into the UN3373 mailing envelope.
