Li-SoCL2 Battery deliver a voltage of 3.6 V and with cylindrical, prismatic and wafer in shape, which has a high energy density and the widest operating temperature range of -55C to + 150oC. especially self-discharge is extremely low (less than 1% per year), so it support long storage periods and achieve a service life of 8 to 10 years.
Principle and Reactions:
The Li-SOCl2 battery uses liquid Thionyl Chloride (SOCl2) as its positive active material, and Lithium (Li) as its negative active material. The reactions of the batteries are shown below.
Positive reaction: 2SOCl2 + 4Li+ + 4e- 4LiCl + S + SO2
Negative reaction: Li Li+ + e-
Total reaction: 2SOCl2+4Li 4LiCl+ S + SO2
