How Medical Autoclaves Function?
Medical autoclaves function by using high-pressure saturated steam to sterilize equipment and instruments. The process begins by placing items inside the autoclave chamber. Once sealed, the autoclave heats water to generate steam, which is then pressurized to reach temperatures typically between 121C and 134C. This high-temperature steam penetrates the items, effectively killing bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores. The sterilization cycle is carefully controlled to ensure all microorganisms are eradicated. After the cycle, the steam is vented, and the items are dried and cooled before being safely removed for use. This method ensures a high level of sterilization, crucial for medical and laboratory settings.
