Turmeric

Turmeric, scientifically known as Curcuma longa, is a bright yellow-orange spice that comes from the root of the Curcuma plant, which is a member of the ginger family. It has been used for thousands of years in traditional medicine and culinary practices, particularly in South Asia.

Turmeric has a warm, earthy flavor with a slightly bitter undertone and a distinctive aroma. The active compound responsible for its vibrant color and potential health benefits is called curcumin.

In culinary applications, turmeric is commonly used as a spice and food coloring agent, imparting its golden hue to dishes such as curries, rice, soups, stews, and marinades. It is a key ingredient in curry powders and blends, contributing both flavor and color.
