Hi,
Thanks for your question. Let me answer it for you.
Proof of landing also known as 'Landing certificate' globally, is a document issued by the customs authority in a destination country confirming that a particular shipment has entered and cleared the customs, mentioning the date and details of the importer, when the subject goods are exported under bond. This document has various implications such as evidence of export and/or return of products to the supplier to get the tax refund claims.
Usually, document is made digitally available by the shipping line and agents for the exporter. However, Indian government had received many representations disclosing complications occurring while obtaining landing certificate from the Shipping Lines and Agents. And thus, the government have exempted exporters from submitting landing certificate of goods to avail duty benefits given under the reward scheme known as Merchandise Exports India Scheme (MEIS). This measure has been taken as part of ease of doing business and curtailing of shipping cost of the exporters.
Hope this answers your question.
Thanks and regards,
