About MT-10
We designed the MT-10 to measure the water content, electrical conductivity, and temperature of soil. The MT-10 uses an oscillator running at 70 MHz to measure the dielectric permittivity of soil to determine the water content. A thermistor in thermal contact with the sensor prongs provides the soil temperature. The Polyurethane coating on the MT-10 circuit board protects the components from water damage and gives the sensor a longer life span.

Principle
QT-PICO soil moisture and temperature meter is based on TDR (Time domain Reflectometry) technology. It can directly measure the dielectric constant of soil or other media. According to the relationship between the dielectric constant and soil moisture, soil water content can be derived from the output voltage.
When the meter is operating, it first produces 1GHz high frequency electromagnetic waves, then the waves transmit along the conductor and generate an electromagnetic field around the probe. When the waves reach the end of the conductor, they return to the source. The duration of transmission is between 10 ps and 2 ns. The meter is very sensitive and it can detect the time signal as short as 3 ps. The time sampling method makes soil moisture measurements become more accurate and convenient.
