Iron ores are rocks and minerals from which metallic iron can be economically extracted. The ores are usually rich in iron oxides and vary in color from dark grey, bright yellow, or deep purple to rusty red. The iron is usually found in the form of Mangnetie (Fe3O4, 72.4% Fe) hematite (Fe2O3 69.9%) goethite ((FeO(OH), 62.9% Fe) Limonite (FeO(OH) n(H2O) 55% Fe) siderite (FeCO3, 48.2%, Fe) Ores containing very high quantities of hematite or magnetite, typically greater than about 60% iron, are known as natural ore or direct shipping ore, and can be fed directly into iron-marking blast furnaces. Iron ore is the raw material used to make pig iron which is one of the main raw materials to make steel 98% of the mined iron ore is used to make steel. In 2011 the Finacial Times quoted Christopher LaFemina, mining analyst at Barclays Capital, saying that iron ore is " More integral to the global economy than any other commodity except perhaps oil". Iron ores[1] are rocks and minerals from which metallic iron can be economically extracted. The ores are usually rich in iron oxides and vary in color from dark grey, bright yellow, or deep purple to rusty red. The iron is usually found in the form of magnetite (Fe 3O 4, 72.4% Fe), hematite (Fe 2O 3, 69.9% Fe), goethite (FeO(OH), 62.9% Fe), limonite (FeO(OH)·n(H2O), 55% Fe) or siderite (FeCO3, 48.2% Fe). Ores containing very high quantities of hematite or magnetite (greater than about 60% iron) are known as "natural ore" or "direct shipping ore", meaning they can be fed directly into iron-making blast furnaces. Iron ore is the raw material used to make pig iron, which is one of the main raw materials to make steel 98% of the mined iron ore is used to make steel.[2] In 2011 the Financial Times quoted Christopher LaFemina, mining analyst at Barclays Capital, saying that iron ore is "more integral to the global economy than any other commodity, except perhaps oil".[3]
Pig iron, also known as crude iron, is an intermediate product of the iron industry in the production of steel which is obtained by smelting iron ore in a blast furnace. When the metal had cooled and hardened, the smaller ingots (the "pigs") were simply broken from the runner (the "sow"), hence the name "pig iron".
Galvanised Iron (GI) Pipes are manufactured using mild steel strips of Low Carbon Steel Coils. The strips are passed through a series of fin rolls to give them a circular shape. The slit ends of the strips are then welded together by continuously passing high frequency electric current across the edges. The welded steel pipes are then passed through sizing sections where any dimensional deviations are corrected. The pipes are then cut into desired lengths by automatic cutting machines. The tubes are then pressure tested for any leaks randomly. The galvanization and varnishing of pipes are done as per specific requirements. The GI Pipes are generally used for distribution of treated or raw water in rural or urban areas. These pipes are cheaper, light weight and easy to handle.
Coal based Sponge-iron is a metallic product produced through direct reduction of iron ore in the solid state. As such it is also known as Direct Reduced Iron (DRI).After reduction of iron ore pellet the product resembles sponge because of pores left behind after removal of oxygen. As such it is called Sponge Iron
* Iron ore is found in nature in the form of rocks, mixed with other elements. By means of various industrial processes incorporating cutting-edge technology, iron ore is processed and then sold to steel companies. The primary use of iron ore (98%) is to make steel. The remaining 2% is used in various other applications, such as: powdered iron for certain types of steels, magnets, auto parts and catalysts. radioactive iron (iron 59) for medicine and as a tracer element in biochemical and metallurgical research 5.5 -6 mm 8 mm 10 mm 12 mm 16 mm 20 mm 25 mm 32 mm 36 mm 40 mm 50 mm
