Arabica Coffee Gayo Gayo, which also means nice, is an ethnic group with their own language, strong music and dance culture, and society of highly educated scholars. The Gayo tribe has a population of 85.000, and they live predominantly in the scenic, pine-studded mountainous region of Aceh province on the island of Sumatera, accessible only by road and hence fairly remote. Also known as Urang Gayo, they have traditionally been rice farmers and traders. Aceh Gayo Arabica Coffee comes from the Gayo highlands, where the superb tropical volcanic soil provides a unique earthy, deep, rich taste. The crop is organically grown without fertilizers and is widely known as green beans for being environmentally friendly. The people of Central Aceh developed the skill of coffee planting with the arrival of Dutch East Indies to the area around 1904.Grown above 1.200 meters, Gayo semi-washed Arabica coffee has thrived and is consistently rated as one of the best among Indonesia's many coffee growing regions. This lot has been hand-sorted a third time before export, hence it is called Triple Pick. This coffee has a light earthy notes with a full body and smooth aftertaste. ETHIOPIA GUJI FARM: This Guji Hambela farm is located in the fertile Oromia regional State, in Guji zone, between the two districts of Gedeb and Hambela, approximately 477 km (297 miles) South of Addis Abeba (the Capital of Ethiopia), and 20 km (12.5 miles) East of Dimtu Town (the capital of Hambela). The farm is 200 hectars (494 acres) in size and is meticulously operated by several indigenous families. The coffee farm utilizes shade (acacia and other indigenous trees) to protect the coffee plants. This coffee is organically grown using natural composts and other organic fertilizers. Colombia is the second largest producer of coffee in the world and the largest producer of washed and Arabica coffee. They are well known for their high quality coffee and about half of their exports come to the United States. Colombia exports approximately 12.5 million bags and internal consumption is about 2 million bags annually. Colombia only produces washed Arabica coffee. There are three primary varieties grown in Colombia and the coffee is referred to by the region in which it is grown. There are many coffee producing regions in the country. Colombia is proficient in producing an abundance of truly delicious and sought after coffee. "Excelso" is a grading term for exportable coffee from Colombia, not related to variety or cupping profile. EP (European Preparation) specifies that the raw beans are all hand sorted to remove any defective beans and foreign material. Excelso coffee beans are large, but slightly smaller than Supremo coffee beans. Excelso coffee beans are a screen size of 15-16, versus Supremo beans which are sized on screen 17. Colombian coffee is graded before shipment according to bean size. It is possible that Supremo and Excelso coffee beans are harvested from the same tree, but they are sorted by it's size. Description Ethiopia is the origin of the Coffea arabica species and the coffee plants grow wild in the forests of the Kaffa region. The country shows a typical smallholder structure. This means that a high number o farmers with a usually small yield carry their cherries to central washing stations, where the beans are carefully sorted, de-pulped, fermented for 24-36h, washed and graded in washing channels and finally, dried on the so-called African beds, also known as drying tables, during 10-15 days.
