The Dorper is a white sheep with a black head or head and neck, with complete dark pigmentation of exposed skin. The covering is a short loose mixture of hair and wool with a natural clean kemp underline. The Dorper was developed as a meat sheep in South Africa in the mid 1900s by crossing a Dorset (horn) ram with a Blackhead Persian ewe. In July 1950 a breeder's society was founded. The White Dorper is an all white sheep that shares its many attributes with the Dorper, differing only in color. The White Dorper was developed as a meat sheep in South Africa in the mid 1900s by crossing a Dorset (horn)/Blackhead Persian with a Dorset (horn)/Van Rooy. Later infusion of the Ronderib Afrikaaner created the White Dorper as we know it today. The sheep was originally called Dorsian and a breed association was formed. In 1964 it was decided to join with the Dorper society but to maintain the two as separate breeds. The White Dorper as a terminal sire on white faced sheep will render an "uninterrupted white" cross lamb with outstanding meat qualities.
Merino sheep are famous for their exceptionally soft and fine wool, which was first brought to Spain in the late 19th century and has since become one of the world's most popular wool breeds. Commonly used in industrial settings such as clothing, bedding, and upholstery, Merino wool blankets are incredibly warm and cozy to sleep under on chilly winter nights. Here are some interesting facts about Merino sheep that you might not have known.

In 1797 the first merino sheep were landed in Australia. Unlike earlier breeds, this Spanish variety was much better suited to the Australian environment and was a formidable wool producer. The first Australian-produced fleece was sold in England in 1807 and by the late 19th century, wool had become Australiaâ??s major export. The industry has gone through cycles of extreme growth and contraction, but today Australia still produces more than half of the world's merino wool.

Assaf sheep are the result of crossbreeding between Awassi and East Friesian Milk sheep. In 1955, researchers of the Israeli Agricultural Research Organization (A.R.O) started this project aiming to improve the fecundity of the Awassi sheep. A combination of 3/8 East Friesian and 5/8 Awassi blood emerged as the best cross. Most dairy sheep breeders in Israel have adopted the Assaf, which is considered not only a top quality dairy sheep and excellent mutton producer, but is also well-adapted to semi-extensive to extensive production systems.
