Pke ( protein and fat 21% min) Palm kernel cake (expeller) has high fibre content, significant quantities of vitamin "e" and a 6-10% fat content being similar in composition to alfalfa, is highly suited as feed for beef and dairy cattle, or as minor feed ingredients for animals like broiler and layer chicken or pigs. Cattle fed 6-8 kg pke combined with small quantities of feed additive (e.G. Minerals and vitamins) produce daily growth rates of 0.7-1.0 kg/animal.
Palm Kernel Expeller ( PKE ) is the main by-product of the palm kernel oil extraction process. It is a highly fibrous and medium grade protein feed, hence most suited to ruminant or rabbit feeding . Palm kernel resulting from mechanical extraction contains 5-12% oil and solvent-extracted palm kernel Expeller contains 0.5-3% oil . Most of the palm kernel Expeller production goes to animal feeding , Known for its balanced energy and protein, high Fibre, good level of residual oil and high Palmitic acid, it is widely used in compound feeds for adult ruminant livestock such as dairy cow, beef cow and sheep , etc. 80% of palm oil originates from Indonesia and Malaysia. Indonesia is the largest producer and exporter of palm oil and palm oil by-products. In 2017, this country produced 21.5 million t of palm oil (48% of world production) and 2.3 million of palm kernel oil.
