A tiger prawn or penaeus monodon, is a crustacean that lives in the ocean. Since the 1970s, this prawn has been produced in rapidly increasing quantities by international aqua-culturists also known as aqua farmers primarily in Australia and Thailand. Like other prawns, tiger prawns are prepared and eaten in a variety of ways. Vannamei prawns are tropical prawns that are farmed in areas near the equator, generally along the coast in artificial ponds. This farming is increasingly being certified as sustainable in accordance with the GlobalGAP, BAP or ASC standard. Under ideal conditions, the prawns can grow up to a length of 20 centimeters. The giant tiger prawn is a crustacean that is actively reared for food purposes. Initially, the species was first discovered in the year 1798. The females of the species reach a length of 33 cm and their weight is around 200-320 grams. On the other hand, the males have a length of 20-25 cm and their weight can be near to 100-170 grams. The carapace and abdomen of both are banded with red and white stripes. Naturally, the Tiger prawn is found in the Indo pacific region. This goes from the eastern coast of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula to Southeast Asia, the Pacific Ocean, and northern Australia. They can be seen in the Gulf of Mexico too. Their first capturing happened in 1988 when nearly 300 of them were held from the South Eastern shore. Now they can be caught in the waters ranging from Texas to North Carolina. The Tiger prawn can stay in different types of settings but when they grow up you can find them in estuaries and mangroves only. Black tiger prawn variety is said to be nocturnal. In the day they burrow into the substrates and in the night they look out for food. Mating also happens in night and they produce around 8 lakh eggs. PACKING : HOSO, HLSO
