It's a black hexagonal crystal with metallic luster, chemical stability, hardness and diamond similarity, and it's also a good conductor of electricity and heat. In tungsten carbide, carbon atoms are intercalated into the gap of the tungsten metal lattice without destroying the crystal lattice of the original metal, thereby forming a gap solid solution, and thus the tungsten carbide is also called an interstitial compound (or an intercalation compound). Tungsten carbide is suitable for machining at high temperatures-- it can make cutting tools, structural materials for kiln, jet engines, gas turbines, nozzles, etc. The hardness of cobalt-based carbonized tungsten alloy powder or nickel-based carbonized tungsten alloy powder and chromium-based carbonized tungsten alloy powder sprayed by HVOF tungsten carbide coating can reach 850 degrees of high temperature of HV1200.
