PS is a thermoplastic non crystalline resin that is polymerized from styrene monomers and can be synthesized through various synthetic methods. In industry, bulk polymerization and suspension polymerization are mainly used. PS is mainly divided into general grade polystyrene (GPPS, commonly known as transparent benzene), impact grade polystyrene (HIPS, commonly known as modified benzene), and foam grade polystyrene (EPS). General grade polystyrene is a thermoplastic resin that is colorless, odorless, odorless, and glossy, transparent, bead like or granular solid.General grade polystyrene is a thermoplastic resin that is colorless, odorless, odorless, and glossy, transparent, bead like or granular solid. It is soluble in Aromatic hydrocarbon, chlorinated hydrocarbons, aliphatic ketones and esters, but can only swell in acetone. Low water absorption, able to maintain its mechanical properties and dimensional stability in humid environments. The optical performance is second only to acrylic resin. Excellent electrical performance, high volume and surface resistivity, and unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, as well as corona discharge. The radiation resistance is also very good. Its main drawbacks are brittle and easy to crack, low impact strength, poor heat resistance, and inability to withstand boiling water. It can only be used at lower temperatures and loads. Poor sunlight resistance and flammability. When burning, it emits black smoke and has a special odor.
